A native French variety with origins in the Medoc, region of Bordeaux, France. The predominant characteristic flavours are red fruits with a hint of chocolate and coffee.The world's largest area planted with this variety is in Chile. This grape often makes medium body wines with deep red color and aromas found in red fruits, spices and berries. Carménère may be distantly related to Merlot but it is a member of the Cabernet family of grapes.
