Its a genetic cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsaut/Hermitage made in South Africa. It produces deep red varietal wines with smoky, bramble and earthy flavors, sometimes with notes of banana and tropical fruit. The vines are vigorous like their parent Cinsaut and easy to grow, ripening early with high sugar levels. Pinotage often makes wines very fruity and easy to drink. Taste notes: mulberry, blackberry, damson, a bit of coffee, tobacco, spicy and gamy nuances.
